The Bega Group Joins Labelmakers’ Glassine Liner Recycling Program

Labelmakers’ partnership with Bega Group has diverted just over 300 Tonnes of liner from landfill into our local Glassine Liner Recycling Program.

In a significant step towards sustainability, Bega Group has partnered with Labelmakers to join their innovative Glassine Liner Recycling Program. This collaboration ensures that all glassine liners used in the Bega Group’s operations at Smithfield NSW and Penrith NSW are now diverted from landfill, contributing to both environmental preservation and Bega Group’s commitment to circularity through resource efficiency, waste minimisation and sustainable packaging.  Collectively we have diverted just over 300 Tonnes of liner from landfill into our local glassine liner recycling program.

A Sustainable Partnership

Glassine liners, commonly used in label applications, have traditionally been challenging to recycle due to their unique composition. Labelmakers has addressed this issue by establishing a robust local recycling program that transforms these materials into reusable resources, reducing environmental impact and promoting circularity.

By joining this program, the Bega Group is taking a proactive stance to responsibly manage packaging waste, ensuring glassine liners are collected and recycled effectively.

Supporting National Sustainable Packaging Goals

As a proud member of APCO, the Bega Group is committed to advancing packaging sustainability. The Glassine Liner Recycling Program directly aligns with APCO’s objectives, including:

  • Transitioning to recyclable, reusable, or compostable packaging
  • Increasing the recovery and recycling rates of packaging materials
  • Reducing the environmental footprint of packaging across its lifecycle

This partnership with Labelmakers represents a significant milestone in the Bega Group’s ongoing efforts to contribute to Australia’s national sustainable packaging targets.

How the Program Works

Labelmakers’ Glassine Liner Recycling Program operates through a streamlined process:

  1. Collection: Glassine liners are systematically gathered across Bega Group’s operations.
  2. Recycling: The collected liners are transported to specialized recycling facilities in Australia, where they are converted into new, high-value materials.
  3. Reporting: Transparent tracking and reporting systems measure the program’s environmental impact and progress toward sustainability goals.

Positive Environmental Impact

The program delivers tangible benefits, including:

  • Landfill Diversion: Preventing significant amounts of waste from ending up in landfills
  • Resource Conservation: Reducing the need for virgin materials by repurposing glassine liners
  • Carbon Emissions Reduction: Lowering greenhouse gas emissions associated with material production and waste management

Bega Group’s Leadership in Sustainability

By joining Labelmakers’ Glassine Liner Recycling Program, Bega Group is leading by example, demonstrating how businesses can adopt innovative waste management practices to achieve a more circular economy.

“This program reflects Bega Group’s commitment to circularity, resource efficiency and sustainable packaging. said Jane Camilleri, Sustainability Program Manager at Bega Group. “It’s a significant step in our journey towards creating a Better Future.”
